Environment Technology 2
Project 1 : Facade Gizmo Optimal Proposal (Group)
Students (group of 4) are to select a facade of their choice from an existing building (approved by the Tutors). Assuming that you are given the task by the building owner to renovate the building. Identify the problems associated with visual, thermal and site environmental matter. Propose ‘gizmos’ or devises that are able to improve the indoor environment to the building owner with the following considerations:
1) Specify the correct choice of building materials and components with basic understanding of their physical properties, characteristics and environmental impact.
2) Analyze the series of configured options.
3) Identify the optimal options.
4) Other considerations.
Project 2 : Service Core Optimal Proposal
Using the Design Studio project, identify the issues associated with visual, thermal and site environmental matter. These factors are to be analyzed using the appropriate methodology. Propose service core/s that will improve the indoor environment and at the same time, able to comply to the necessary standards and regulations with the following considerations: a) Specify the correct choice of orientation and components with basic understanding of their requirement, characteristics and environmental impact. b) Analyze the series of configured options c) Identify the optimal options. d) Incorporate the necessary statutory requirements Produce a handbook providing the studies and proposals of the above components.
Final Project : Synthesis - Integrated Design
Using the Design Studio project, you will be required to provide the following:
a) Propose devices that can improve the indoor environment for the users in a habitable space. Analyse and identify the optimum option associated with visual, thermal and site environmental matter by using the appropriate methodology. Provide the necessary data, choice of materials and examples (if any) to support your proposal. (Floor plan, section and elevation 1:50 or appropriate scale).
b) Demonstrate the application of firefighting principles namely the firefighting access, evacuation and passive containment, designed for the project. Provide appropriate plans and specifications regarding the relevant standards and regulations available. (Site plan at 1:500, floor plans at 1:100 or appropriate scale, diagrams)
c) Draw schematic diagrams for water supply and rainwater harvesting that shows the distribution system from its source to the last point of supply. Provide adequate technical specifications for the proposed system. (Not to scale)
Students are required to prepare and submit the following:
• 2 A1 size presentation format featuring the tasks given (softcopy for e-portfolio)
• Data analysis
• Drawings (manual or CAD and sketches) and specifications
• Reference
• Students’ names and ID to be clearly displayed
