Design Communication
Project 1a: On-site sketching
It is a first-hand conscious experience for understanding and articulation of space. This project introduced visualization and expression of space through on-site sketching activity on campus. I have learned to understand the notion of space in architecture, develop skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site and skills in sketching as a mode of communication.
Project 1b: Tonal Values
This project is designed to develop skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch, refine and enhance the ability upon the previous assignment. We are vary the sketched in the hatching type and mediumk such as stippling, cross-hatching, one-directional (hatching) and scribbling.
I learned to understand the notion of space & detailing’s in architecture and objects, develop skills in communicating the above in various tonal and depth values and develop various techniques of hatching through different medium.
Project 2a: Brief & Marking Rubric Orthographic projections: plans, sections, elevations
I am to utilize the given images of a simple building, which is farnsworth house, to be drawn up. By using the skills demonstrated and explained in the workshops, draw up the orthographic drawings, which required to demonstrate drafting skills in modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing, record and present clear and legible architectural information manually, identify and apply architectural conventions and symbols and demonstrate in pencil and ink examples of: line types, line weights, line quality, hand lettering.
Project 2b: Axonometric projection
With a fairly in-depth understanding of the architectural detail and spatial value of the Farnsworth House, we need to execute an axonometric projection by generating partial of an external and a sectional (internal) axonometric of the house. These projections will be generated at a scale of 1:100 on A2-sized butter paper (for construction) and finally inked on A2-sized trace.
I learned to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of an axonometric projection, understand axonometric projections are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation and produce legible architectural drawings.
Project 2c: Perspectives
This project introduces perspective as a mode of communication in architecture. We are required to construct firstly, one exterior (two-point) perspective followed by one sectional interior perspective (onepoint). In constructing both these perspectives, we are to demonstrate the ability to express spatial idea in 3-D form, understanding of 2-D and 3-D relationships in architectural graphics, skills in drawing and composition, creativity and complexity of drawing. Also, your selection of space and exterior form is significant.
I learned to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of onepoint and two-point perspectives, understand what perspectives (and its different types) are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation and gain ability to produce legible architectural drawings with strong creative intent.
Project 3: Presentation Boards
This final project 3 is combined with Design Studio I which required us to come out with a hide out for our respective clients and 3 or 4 boards with all drawings (Plans, Section, Elevations, Perspective View) of our design according to our Design Studio I. All boards have to be designed professionally that can speaks by themselves through words without an oral presentation.
