Project 1

In a group of 5 members, we are to select the design of one of the members in studio 3. Working in a group, we are required to re-design the roof of that building by using truss designs.

We have used different trusses in each part, such as warren truss, space frame and pratt truss. We have met difficulties while designing the roof due to the asymmetrical shape of the roof. Yet, we are able to overcome it and solve the problems.

We have analysed the load that will act on the truss and even the connection of the trusses.

Project 2 : Structural Analysis of a Bangalow

In this project, we are required to carry out structural framing , design a bungalow and prepare structural drawings for the bungalow. This project involves structural theory, force calculation and basic structural proposal which allows understanding the concept of structural analysis. The bungalow should be designed as 2 storey which consists of the following component :

1 master bedroom with attached bathroom
Minimum 3 bedrooms
2 bathrooms
Kitchen
Living hall
Dining area
1 store room.

The second part of this project is about analysis of beams and columns. Each of the group members are required to analyze 6 beams and 3 columns which contains different types of loads ( UDL, PL, combination of UDL and PL).

The objectives of this project are as follows:

To introduce the basic process of building structures design process to the students.
To enable the students to have a holistic experience including Concept and Structure Layout Design, Building Structure Engineering Considerations, Structure Members Sizing and Calculations, Final Report and Presentation.

The learning outcome of this projects are :

Produce a complete documentation on structural system of a case study
Explore and understand the concept of structural analysis
Identification of structural components
Recognize, Execute and implement basic procedures of building structure design
Produce a structural proposal
