The Norm --- Klang Civic Center
-contextual and expressionism approach-
A new civic Identity of Klang Town. Through abstraction and negotiation between the new and old of the architectural configuration of architecture in Klang Town.
Constructing a new venue as a force to manipulate the cultural landscape of the town.
This is building multiracial, genius loci, contextual oriented that embrace the civic identity. Due to the diversity in the Klang Town, and its historic relationship due back to war time. A continual negotiation and conversation always occurs as “New replaces Old”, therefore, in this proposal, it is the formation of new architectural configuration through the negotiation between the old and new of Klang. This is done through the abstraction and research and experiment of various architectural forms, configuration of the old and current, therefore retaining the old in a new expression. Provoking a stance where it is architectural elements oriented, where civic identity is thoroughly explicit, as an experiential center where people gain knowledge through the configuration.
Taking the first turn from the entrance, you a shuffle between stairways and corridors which all look the same, each passage is swallowed by the next. Stretching in all directions the meandering path diverts into a wing that then multiplies into an enfilade of courtyards and galleries. You soon arrive at the archive, buried in a thicket of books and mirrors, extending into infinity. The rooms ahead expand into vast vistas whilst returning paths shrink and collapse, enclosing you in a mist of time. ⠀
